Why

Abby started asking then what?...then what?...around 2 1/2 years old. It was tiring to answer them, but I figure it helps in her logic. Something happens and then something else will happen. Eventually, I figure out that she knows the answers to some questions. She asked them again and again to make sure the answers are the same from me (confirmation). I resort to ask her back and she was happy to answer.

Around 3 years old, the why questions tend to get on my nerves.
What's the color of the box? Blue. Why is it blue?
What's the boy's name? Adam. Why is his name Adam?

I answer when she is seeking information. But to some questions like above, I chose to ignore or say there is no why.

I recently read from a book saying it might be better to answer the significance or purpose. Sometimes kids ask why because they want to know why. Sometimes that's not what they are asking but they don't know how else to ask it.

For example:
Why does it get dark?
Typical answer would be because the sun has set. Which leads to why does the sun set?
But instead of saying there is no why, answer "so we can sleep better and people on the other side of the globe can have day light"
Sometimes they just want to know the significance of something, not necessarily the why.

I pray that I would have more patience and wisdom in responding all the why questions.
